Going Solo! I took my first solo trip in quite a while
(beside business trips) to attend a silent retreat for women North of San
Francisco. Kenobi and Choci stayed in Houston. It is very nice to
have a supportive husband who volunteers to take care of our high energy 2-year
old while I am off to California exploring new things!
The idea for the trip started years ago when I read a book from Jack
Kornfield, randomly picked up at a cool little bookstore, partially
because of a pretty lotus flower on its cover and partially because I was
intrigued by Buddhism. The book was a "guide to the universal teachings of
Buddhist psychology" and I found it different, wise, and beautiful.
Reading more about Jack Kornfield, I discovered he was a cofounder of a
meditation center in California. So when I decided to learn meditation (one
among the very long list of things I would like to learn), I thought that
a week-long retreat at this center would be a great place to start.
So off I
went, not having any real clue what to expect, but looking forward to giving it
a try. The property in the hills North of San Francisco was
beautiful and the experience turned out to be a little odd, and certainly
unique, but well worthwhile.
