Day 149 & 150 - San Gimignano

San Gimignano is a darling medieval village a little over an hour drive outside of Florence. It is beautifully preserved and charming in every way. One of its unique characteristics comes from the multiple towers that rise above the towns red tile roof tops. Apparently, during the 12th century, the well-to-do families of San Gimignano had some kind of "my tower is bigger than your tower" thing going on...

Along with the charm and beauty, the food was also superb, especially the pastas and mushrooms.

Being that it is the eleventh of September as we write this post, we are reminded that everywhere we have travelled, there have been examples after examples, from ancient times to present day, of the callous savagery of humans.  There has also been incredible beauty, expressions of kindness, compassion and love - let's hope these prevail.
