Nikko was impressive with the many shrines and temples that arose out of the various forms of worship that are practiced "in the light of the sun" (as Nikko is translated in English). Their beauty and spiritual depth are magnified by the enchanting forests in which they are nestled. The shrines and temples are UNESCO World Heritage.
We could not select a short number of pictures, given how large and beautiful the site was.... so here is a bunch. When we arrived, it was overcast, as we climbed higher into the site it began to snow, and by the time we left there was blue sky and sunshine above. Beautiful!
