Day 16 - Kinugawa (near Nikko) and surroundings

Kinugawa ("Angry Demon River", the Dams that control it now are very impressive… think Hoover) - A small resort town North of Tokyo, along a beautiful river gorge that in was originally settled by the Taira clan around 1000AD when they were defeated by rivals.  One of the towns, Yunishigawa, is now an open air museum.
Kinugawa, was established as a weekend getaway Onsen for Tokyo as there are many hot springs.  As we discovered, it now appears to be popular with the 65+ crowd in kind of a “cruise ship hotel along the river” style.  We had a great time.
