Day 132 - Barcelona - Sagrada Família

Shortly after arriving in Barcelona, we went to see the Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família. La Sagrada Familia was designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí (1852–1926). Construction commenced in 1882 and completion is currently targeted for 2026. It is compelling to see, in this age of such tremendous human capability yet typically geared towards mass construction and quick completion/returns, a creation, especially a spiritually inspired artistic one with such a timeframe.  Just think what all we could create given a 150 year time horizon? The architecture itself is unique, wildly detailed and impressive, but the inside of the church is simply incredible. Inspired mainly from different shapes in nature Gaudi created a deeply spiritual environment. It also has some of the most beautiful stain glass windows we have ever seen inside a Church - filling it with color on a lazy summer Spanish afternoon.
