Day 69 - New Zealand - Christchurch

Christchurch is rebuilding from the 2010-2012 earth quakes. Though everywhere you look there is major construction, most of downtown is blocked off as there is still too much damage.

The positive attitude of the people is inspiring, the temporary buildings (shipping container mall, cardboard cathedral, and pallet pavilion to name a few) are enjoyable and enlightening and the longer term plans for the city impressive (~NZ$40B estimated according to discussions with locals).

When visiting a place of disaster that brought loss of life, it can feel inappropriate to take pictures, but in hindsight and based on our conversations with the people of Christchurch we should have taken more as testament to their spirit.  Godspeed to your rebirth.

Below are a few pictures from the shopping center made of shipping containers.
